Matte & Glossy Drip Nail Tutorial

Over the past few months I recieved a bunch of requests to create a tutorial for my dripping nails, so I made this video for you guys. I actually created and uploaded it at the end of last year, but I completely forgot to share it. As in the description of the video, it's not my best work! But I hope showing my tools and technique helps you to achieve the same look if you wish (´▽`) As for those of you who've been asking me to make some other youtube videos, this idea really excites me and I'd love to give it a shot. Although I'm back at uni now, I'm still going to do my best to find some time to try a few things out for my channel, even if it takes a little while. And speaking of being back at uni - sorry my last few travel posts are taking so long! The last week back at school was a bit crazy, but I should have some things up (including an outfit post) really soon!

Tie Dead

Vintage Grateful Dead tie-dye t-shirt (gifted) from Kinji Harajuku, custom pleated skirt from Lawrara shop, Nadia clear PVC backpack (gifted), platform mary janes and choker from Etsy, socks from Sydney markets, Kreepsville 666 horror hair horns and eyeball ring, tattoo bracelet from eBay, tights from Sportsgirl, bone keyring by Opening Ceremony.

This whole post was pretty much just an excuse to show off my favourite new things at the moment. Firstly, these lovely platform mary janes and collar/choker I snagged on Etsy. Although I've known about it for years, I haven't really been into shopping on Etsy until the past few months? So much wasted time! I've found so many great things on there lately it's ridiculous. These mary janes are srs bsns though, most of the platform is a thick foam but they are SUPER heavy, its awesome, they could do some serious damage. And the heart lock collar has barely left my neck, and it takes a real key to unlock/remove it. The tie-dye t-shirt and backpack are gifts from my friend who visited Japan recently. How sick is the clear Nadia backpack?! I think what I love about clear backpacks is that there are lot of creative things you can do with 'styling' the items you put inside.

The past couple of weeks have also been DIY funtime. I've been really into dyeing lately and the different things you can do with coloured dyes, bleach etc. and researching the best techniques ever since I was sent a pair of Mink Pink Slashers for the Facebook competition going on. I have a wicked 90s-inspired customisation in the works. In fact I just pulled my shorts out of their black dye bath this morning (2nd shot at getting them the blackest I can) and it was a success! The next thing I want to dye are some old white shoelaces of mine pastel hues using food colouring. And I also want to give tye dyeing a shot for myself. And I also want to dye and/or bleach my American Apparel denim jacket... yeah. I think I'm obsessed.

Dino

Vintage Wrangler denim vest from Chicago Thrift Store Harajuku, Jeremy Scott x Adidas t-shirt, One Teaspoon "Bonita" shorts, Giza x New Era NY cap from GR8 Japan, socks from Pop Star Shibuya, Demonia creepers, Lactose Intoler-Art necklace, various thrifted pins.

I guess I'd consider this one of my more Zipper/Seto Ayumi inspired looks? After going to Japan and visiting SPINN's it really made me realise how the whole Zipper girl style is such a big thing in Harajuku and a ton of girls on the streets are dressed those trends, it's pretty sick. And I'm also quite in love with this Giza (Mademoiselle Yulia's brand) x New Era cap I picked up from GR8 Japan in La Foret. When I went to Japan I had decided I would leave with a New Era cap, and I did! The guy in the store was so hilarious and super keen though, he kept running around and bringing me things he thought I would like. My nail art (below) as I posted here a few days ago is vaguely Nadia inspired! Drawing basic symbols and shapes precisely is super tricky but really fun. Nadia should consider branching out from skin tattoos to nail tattoos.

Also, yesterday I bumped into one of my readers, Anna! Check out our photo THE MILK CLUB fb page here. It's the first time anyone has approached me after recognising me from my blog photos, so it was a super cool and new experience for me. Thank you Anna! It was a pleasure to meet you :)

AA Polish Collection

Peacock, Malibu Green, Poppy, Mac Arthur Park, Trenchcoat, Butter, Dance, Palm Springs, Rouge, Office, L'Esprit, Factory Grey, Echo Park, Hassid, Smoke Dazzle.

My updated American Apparel Nail Polish collection! (But not all of them are my own, my mum picked up about 6 of those the other day, but what's hers is practically mine ¬ ‿ ¬) As I've said countless times before, AA is by far my favourite nail polish brand for the colour, the consistency and how it dries super fast. I'm really excited to try out Dance and Factory Grey!

Oh and guess what!! I got a new laptop! It's super cute and fits right in my pocket~

Exactly one more month left of Summer and I'm getting in the mood for Autumn clothing~ Picked up this denim jacket from the men's section of American Apparel along with the Smoke Dazzle polish from the their new Metallic range. When I tilt my fingers the colour changes from pinky-purple to blue-green and it looks amazing in bright sunlight.

Bunny Hologram Nails

Photobucket

Aren't they cute? Thanks to my friend Ellen who is a nail genius. The base coat is blue Hologram polish from The Make Up Store, as you can see in the GIF above I tried to capture it's trippiness in direct sunlight and also under flash. I've never seen Hologram polish in person until yesterday. And I've wanted to try bunnies on my nails ever since seeing this.

It's been quite a while since my last post. I always want to take nice photos in my room, but when I get home from uni around 4:30-5:30pm, all the good lighting is gone because it's still winter... and because I'm so fussy, I always put it off /sigh. Also been quite busy working on two uni projects at once, both styling for photoshoots. My first shoot is going to be slightly Wednesday Addams inspired! I'm really excited about it. Anyway - I have a few cool posts planned that will be coming up shortly ^_~

Also thank you to Victoria for mentioning me on Ellevictoire! I was so excited to see my GIFS in her post and thankful for new followers I've gained. Welcome! I can't wait to check out all your blogs, and I really hope you enjoy my posts : )

American Apparel Nail Polish

This post title is dedicated to AA nail polish and how amazing it is. I don't know what's in their magical formula (I think it's unicorn tears or something) but I've never had polish that applies so smoothly, requires such few coats, and lasts well. I sound like an ad but seriously, if you're into nails, you need it in your life. However the only thing about it that sucks is that they don't have enough colours T___T I picked up the 'Peacock' shade along with some new socks (!!) from AA during my break at uni today, the Sally Hanson strips and OPI Black Shatter are a gift from my sister (I'm really excited to try them both out for the first time), and the September issue of Vogue Australia. Oh and thanks to my mum for the french Taratata Bijoux oversized camera ring : )

I'm back at uni now \o/ the six week break has ended. Also, thanks to my amazing and talented friend slash creative partner Vanessa, I've become assistant stylist to Hayley from Fashion Hayley and having a lot of fun! So far we've worked on a cover shoot for Fashion Journal and I've already learned so much, and this Saturday I'll be assisting with the shoot of local Sydney band Circle Pit. The concept has a bit of Rockabilly influence :'D yay creepers~!!

Now I'm into the swing of things again, more posts coming up very soon.

Marble Nails

I tried nail marbling for the first time! It's so much fun : ) I can't wait to give it a go with other colours and maybe even more than just three.

Tips for anyone trying this themselves:
  • Make sure you tape at least halfway down your finger, if not further, otherwise you will have marbled fingers
  • Toothpick your patterns in super fast! The quicker, the more you can play around with the shapes in the floating nail polish
  • Wait at least 12 hours before applying the top coat! Otherwise you'll get bleeding and the lovely neat marble effect will be ruined
