Recreating the Look | Nicole from 'Fear'

The movie Fear from 1996 is one of those films that I feel is under-appreciated in terms of 90s fashion. The main character, Nicole, is a teenager who falls victim to a super shady guy (I'm not going to spoil it, it's worth watching if you haven't) while also having many awesome and inspiring 90s fashion moments throughout the film (I was obsessed with finding low block heel Mary Jane shoes for at least a year after seeing it for the first time). In fact you can watch pretty much any of Reese Witherspoon's appearances in film during the 90s ~ early 2000s and get a ton of style inspiration. What I like about Nicole's outfits is that they incorporate so many quintessential 90s trends, just like her first look as above, which you will recognise from my second 90s look book video. They're also perfect as a guide for recreating an authentic 90s girly look. All items below:
- Black floral dress
- Dark grey floral dress
- Suede jacket / (Alternative)
- Mini backpack
- Ruffle socks
- Mary Jane shoes

Recreating the Look | Mathilda Lando

If any of you guys followed me on Polyvore a couple of years ago (back when I was still an active user) you might remember that I always posted outfit sets inspired by fictional characters. As I say time and time again, a lot of my style inspiration comes from characters from film and TV. So with this in mind, I thought I would bring back these outfit sets here on my blog as a more regular thing!
So today's look is inspired by Mathilda Lando from Leon The Professional. And yes, I know you're thinking that this is very "tumblr" and that Mathilda as a 90s style icon has pretty much been milked dry on the internet over the past couple of years, but she still has a fun look to recreate with modern fashion pieces so of course I had to put together a set for her (plus she was one of the original looks I created back in the day on Polyvore). While Mathilda is a character that I've seen pop up in the form of Halloween costumes recently, her style is also very wearable in an everyday context. She definitely nails the aesthetic of the tough-but-fragile girl. All items below:

Clothing Inspiration
Fairly recently I posted this on my tumblr and asked you guys to give me feedback on the kind of content you'd like to see here on my blog. I feel like juggling both video editing and photo editing for my YouTube channel and blogspot respectively is pretty damn tricky in terms of time management, but I still enjoy them both so much so I wouldn't want to neglect either one. So by expanding the types of things I post here (as opposed to pretty much only outfit posts which take a lot longer to create) I feel I can keep my blog updated more frequently. yayyyyy.
Getting onto the actual topic of this post - one of the feedback suggestions I received was sharing the inspiration behind my style and clothing. So I have created a sort of 'inspiration breakdown' by selecting a few pieces from my wardrobe that have some kind of memorable inspiration behind them and basically explaining why I hunted them down slash bought them e.g. because it contributed to a character look I was going for (and lbh* 93% of my style is dressing like fictional people).
How do you guys find your inspiration for your style and/or clothing choices?
And if you have any further post requests or suggestions I'd love to hear those too :-)

Bolshie Store
How sick is the new Bol$hie store? Complete with cash money floors, mirrored ceiling, gold and glitter dance pole, pink throne and a candy-coloured fish tank. I was so thrilled I got to check it out with Randa, Siqi and Emmie while I was in London. The first time I saw Bol$hie was actually in the CANDY store in Shibuya, also when I first laid eyes on the virgin mary bomber that I'm still very in love with ♡◡♡*:・゚✧ Oh man if I had G-Dragon's income, I would buy out the entire store in a second. If you are ever in London, you need to check this place out! It will be the most badass store you've ever seen.

✝ ♡ Interview with Creepyyeha ♡ ✝
I wouldn't be surprised if you've heard of the talented Lisa Leung, also known as Creepyyeha. With her unique fetish and Japanese inspired style and designs (which include accessories, clothing and lingerie) that contrast hard and soft, dark and light, devilish and angelic, she has become somewhat of a style icon to the online world. Being an admirer of her personal style and design collections myself, I was super excited to interview Yeha about her and her design work!
Tell us a bit about yourself and where you're from.
My real name is Lisa Leung. I am 20 and I was born in New York. I am 100% Chinese. The name Yeha is how you pronounce my name in Chinese :)
Who are your top style icons?
This is really tough because I have many style icons! But I would have to say that Bettie Page is a huge inspiration. She definitely takes the cake.
What do you consider to be your wardrobe staples?
High heels are a must!
Where do you like to shop most?
I usually shop in random asian clothing stores in flushing and alter them. Etsy and ebay have a lot of great finds that are cheap! But of course, you must have an idea of what you are searching for and Taobao. Physically, I shop anywhere! H&M, Forever 21... etc.
Where are your favourite places to hang out?
I don't go out much really! I am more of a home body. But when I do go out, I usually go to the city to meet with friends in Chinatown or Soho :) If I could, I would LOVE to hang out at Six Flags all day ha ha
Who are your favourite fashion designers, artists and/or creative people?
Rei Kawakubo is by far the best in my list of designers. My favorite artists are Aya Takano, Gottfried Helnwein, Hans Bellmer, ARAKI, so much more. My underground favorites are Siendonube and Yuta Sakakibara at the moment. My favorite creative person is my boyfriend. His name is Alejandro Ramirez Lafontant. He is a very talented designer/artist/DJ... it goes on :D
What have you been listening to lately?
These past days I started listening to Indigo. I have a wide variety taste in music.
Now moving onto your design work. How long have you been a designer for and what first got you into it?
There was isn't a time where I just started calling myself a designer. It is just what I have always known. Like many stories from other designers, it started at a very young age. I never questioned what it is that I wanted to do. I just did what I knew and progressed on the way.
How did you come up with the name creepyyeha?
Well, I am terrible with coming up names. I didn't want a name like teenagebarbiequ33n. I dislike my english name Lisa because it is very boring. My boyfriend made me appreciate my Chinese name more so I chose Yeha because I figured it would be different and more memorable than Lisa. Creepy just came about because I am indeed a creep and slightly perverted.
Describe your design aesthetic in a few words or phrases.
Clothing - Provacative, dark, fetish, avant garde.
Accessories - fetish, babydoll.
How is your personal style reflected in your design work? Or is there anything you've designed that's different to your personal style?
My personal style is actually all black. The pink side of me is a reflection of my personal fetishes. If you are familiar with my work, you can tell that there is a sweet and dark side to my designs. I feel that every female (or male) has both sides of the story to tell about themselves. So I like to incorporate that into my designs using something that is portrayed as angelic and sweet and turn it into something "badass". I love using leather (mostly faux) and mixing it with lace, ruffles… etc. Things that you normally wouldn't think go together until proven otherwise… Making the ugly into something beautiful… The flower and spike combo - I feel has been overdone but it will always be an all time classic design for me.
What is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is ARAKI. The art of bondage. I love that I feel most powerful through restriction. Also Japanese Street Fashion. This day and age, who isn't inspired by it :)
What was your first design piece you ever made?
Haha my first design piece was when I was 10. I used to take ballet classes and I decided I hate dancing so I tore up all my pink stockings, ribbons and tutus and sewed them together into a new piece that looked rather neat. It is a shame that I do not have a photograph of it. I was rather young and I was afraid of my mother finding it so I hid it in my underwear drawer.
What are your top 5 items such as design tools or technology you couldn't live without?
Definitely can't live without an awl, sewing machine, fabric, and most importantly, my hands and mind.
What is your favourite piece you've ever designed?
I made quite a few favorites when I was in college. You cannot see the details in image of course but I am rather proud of it! It is a half jacket with a detachable collar [see below]. It is held up by elastic and suspenders. The skirt has flaps on one side and one of the flaps can be used to cover the bare half or the chest by using a elastic and suspender. They all have this repetitive detail to it which is the boning. I was inspired by this image.
Any particular memorable responses you've received about one of your designs?
I like to hear that people are comfortable and happy when wearing my designs. It is all I hope to hear.
What would be your ultimate dream in terms of your work?
I don't have a dream. I just work and wherever my designs take me, so be it.
Something you're looking forward to?
I look forward to the day where I am 100% satisfied.

Mathilda
Tattoo chokers! I still have a rainbow tattoo bracelet, but planning to get a whole bunch of the kind above. Along with the 80s, the 90s has got to be my favourite fashion era. What's yours?

Demonia Creepers
~( ´ ▽ ` )~ I'm so happy! I've been waiting for these Demonia 402S suede creepers for an insanely long time, for some reason the postage was delayed, but now I have them sjdfhkjdshfdskjfh life is good. Prepare for a photo spam.
They fit perfectly, but they do feel strange to walk in. I've read the feel of them takes a bit of getting used to, but that shouldn't be a problem because I'm going to do my best to wear them everywhere :)

DIY Collar
This Camilla and Marc top is four years old, has stains and pilling and it no longer fits me ╯︵╰, I was going to toss it in a charity bin, but I adore the collar so much that I decided to save it.
Conveniently the button and loop is position in a way that allowed me to easily cut off the collar without damaging the function.
